Big Nazo is an international performance group based in Providence, Rhode Island. Composed of visual artists, puppet performers and masked musicians they unite to create larger-than-life characters, environments, and spectacles through audience-interactive improvisation.  I was commissioned as a costume technician to make four costumes for space aliens characters called Yuranians.

Having previously done contract work for the troupe when I lived in Rhode Island, I was thrilled when Big Nazo designer Erminio Pinque contacted me in the summer of 2022 and asked me to make the four custom outfits for the Yuranians. It was an honor to have gained his trust over the years and been offered this commission even though I had moved to Illinois.

The project was important to me because it revitalized my ties with the supporters of my art community in Providence, Rhode Island. I was determined to complete this project despite all the inconveniences presented by the Covid pandemic and my status as a first-year graduate student living in a tiny apartment with no other income. With the help of award winning Hoeng Grant, I was able to invest in the equipment to construct the garments efficiently and with expertise.
